Twitter

Bryce has been wanting me to start "tweeting" for sometime now. I've been really hesitant for two reasons:

1. Who cares what I have to say anyway (besides Bryce of course - he cares DEEPLY about all things I have to say, right babe?) and
2. Do I have anything interesting to say?

I've been thinking however, that it might just be the perfect place to record all the funnies that happen during the day with the kids. Today's may have read something like this:

"Walked into the school today for the 5th grade maturation program and found myself a little embarrassed that Kalli had eagerly saved us a seat in the front row. Seriously Kal, do we have to be that close to the diagrams?"

So my question of the day is, "Do you tweet and do you like it?"

p.s. You can follow Bryce on twitter here. He is quite hilarious if you ask me.

I've thought about Twitter, but Blogger and Facebook are already two things to keep up with and follow friends.

Ok, not a comment about twitter, but about the maturation program! Did it start already? I wanted to bring Jed over for it. Am I too late? I thought they didn't do that till spring! Aurgghh. I'll give you a call! Can I have more exclamation points!

You know what I think, but you'll need to work on your brevity. By my count your first tweet registered at 219 characters. Practice will make perfect though...

A blog is a slog, but a tweet is so sweet.

Join Twitter. You'll have fun. You can be buddies with my wife @rachelhagen.

Twitter is a zen thing, it exists out in the air, dip your toes in and then step out, then back in again.

You should Tweet. You'd be good at it. Plus, the real coolness of Twitter is getting to see what everyone else is saying. It's like team blogging!

You really should start using Twitter!

There actually is a lot of value in twitter, not just as an awesome way to connect with people (all at once rather than individually) but as a journaling tool - hence the term "micro-blog".

This Common-Craft video explains Twitter's value better than I can in a couple words so check it out!

Twitter is fun because you can read it on your phone or on your computer and it forces your friends to be brief and if you're twittering you can reply to them and be a part of brief fun conversations throughout the day.

My wife twitters in private (@merci), so you can try that too.

In terms of having interesting things to say, well, there's your natural sense of humor :-) and, what you have to say is interesting to the people who know you!

These days, I get most of my best links and updates through Twitter. Because I don't have time to read blogs, or blog, and neither do most of my friends! But if they have a quick idea or they see something cool, they share the link or the sentence in Twitter.

If you sign up for Twitter, I'd follow you :-)

I'm addicted to twitter because it's incredibly useful and also real fun to use.

Useful because if you follow interesting/talented/smart people (either famous or friends of yours) you receive a customised feed of info that are actually related to your interests. That way you take advantage of the amount of info lots of people can find on the net, without having to deal with the rubbish! See it as the ultimate news feed: by adjusting who/how many people you follow you can keep it under control and avoid overflow.

It is also an incredibly flexible medium and outstanding if you are to ask for support! Think of the way @bryce used it :P

The funniest part, however, is using with actual friends to share your daily nonsense/problems/witty banter: length limitations force everyone to think about what they write and are perfect for a joke/rebuttal gag :)

Think about this - you can start bugging @bryce during meetings. I can say from experience that during company pitches, he always has his laptop open so that he check his Twitter feed. He's not checking his phone (where your txt messages are) so this is the best way to brag that it is snowing in SLC and he is stuck in some conference room far away from the mountain.

If for no other reason, do it to taunt him.

Hi Anna.

I use Twitter in a different way than I think Bryce uses it or my husband, Thor (@tempo) uses it. For one, I keep my account private so it's just a channel of communication between me and people I know and care about. There's nothing wrong with having a public Twitter account, it's just a personal choice for me and comes down to how I use my Twitter account.

Sometimes I tweet about where I am at that moment with my children. I don't feel like strangers need to know that information.

Also, like you, I don't always feel like I have much of interest to say and I don't want to worry about entertaining a bunch of strangers. If I tweet something dumb I know my friends will forgive me. :)

I also use Twitter as a light-weight way to record memories as they're being made -- cute or funny things my 6 year old does or say, milestones my baby has achieved. My life is too busy these days to keep up a baby book or to even keep my blog up to date so Twitter is a quick, easy & painless way to fill that gap and help me to not feel guilty for not capturing the little details of their lives.

Twitter has also been a fantastic way to feel more connected to friends that I don't get to see all the time. Sure we email, IM, text message once in a while and even (*gasp*) have phone conversations, but with Twitter we always feel like we're in the loop with what's going on with each other even when we haven't had a chance to connect directly.

Also, because I'm on Twitter and get SMS notifications when my husband tweets I get to find out fascinating things about the way his mind works and the things he's thinking about that I might have otherwise missed out on. :) It's also a great way to feel connected to him when he's traveling.

I'm sure I could go on longer but I've taken up quite enough room as it is. Feel free to ping me if you want any additional thoughts.

I don't twitter, nor will I probably ever. It doesn't seem to make much sense to me since I can't follow the conversations (not that I've tried all that hard). I don't even keep up on Facebook much. My blog is my best "connection" and even that falls flat most times ....
