I'm excited to show off my new summer toy. We took it for its maiden voyage over the weekend. Yummy! Here's the tried and true Smiley family recipe for good old fashioned vanilla. Wow, it's a good one. Now I'm looking for some more to try. Any suggestions?

I have been looking for a good vanilla recipe. Thanks! Your blog has proven so helpful for me. Your birthday party decor was adorable. Our little angel turns one next week, and let me just say I am glad she doesn't know Josie or it would be a huge let down for her birthday. I aspire to be more like you.
AMR - My favorite is just good old sweet cream. Here is a recipe:
SWEET CREAM ICE CREAM
Makes 8 servings
This makes a very creamy ice cream with 25 percent butterfat. Ben & Jerry warn that "this ice cream does not freeze well in home freezers, so be prepared to eat it all." It's so good that shouldn't be a problem. For those who like it a bit zippier, add your favorite mix-ins.
2 cups heavy or whipping cream
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup half-and-half
Pour the cream into a mixing bowl. Whisk in the sugar, a little at a time. Continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 more minute. Pour in the half-and-half and whisk to blend. Transfer to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions.
Sometimes I do like to add cinnamon. Just cinnamon. Oh I am a simple man. :)
There is nothing better than homemade ice cream. My mom makes it all the time....I'm going to pilfer some of her receipes...pistachio receipe coming soon.
We made homemade chocolate ice cream for our dessert tonight and it was great! Great minds think alike!
Kami, thank you for the kind words. I don't doubt one bit that Faith's birthday party will absolutely fabulous. I didn't realize her and Josie were just weeks apart! If you are in SLC soon swing by and you can have all the stars I made. They are dying to go to another party!
Also, I can't wait to try that recipe
Scott - Chris do you mind passing yours along?
And Jen, I'll be waiting!
:)
I would love to share this new favorite of our family:
Old Fashioned Chocolate Ice Cream
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 T cornstarch
1/4 t salt
3 cups milk
2 eggs
3 (1-oz) squares semisweet chocolate, melted
1 5 oz can evaporated milk
1 cup whipping cream
1 t vanilla
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in milk. Stir over medium heat until mixture begins to simmer. In a small bowl, beat eggs. Add eggs to milk mixture. Cook and stir over low heat until slightly thickened, about 2 minutes. Add melted chocolate. Beat with a whisk until mixture is smooth. stir in evaporated milk, whipping cream and vanilla. Cool to room temperature. Freeze in ice cream maker. Makes 2 quarts.
Looks like I need to pick up one of those ice cream makers ... I {heart} homemade ice cream!!!! Thanks for the recipes :)
P.S. How did you like your machine?
