Although we miss the regularly scheduled playdates and after school meet-ups with friends during the summer, we love the freedom from schedules that allows us to spend time with our family - both far and near. This summer we've spent fun filled days with nearly all of our cousins, even the ones from Seattle, Arizona, and Colorado! So to all of our cousins that we've played with this summer...thanks for the fun Brinley, Ashton, Kendyl, Cougar, Russell, Zachary, Andrew, Daniel, Ellie, Morgan, Alyx, Maddi, Mykal, Judd, Renn, Lyric, Merika, Terra, Ramsey, Paisley, Danna, Luke, Brooklyn, Kate, Andi, Dave, Cody, Mark, Abbey, Jane, and Lily. We love you all. Oh the joys of a large family!

I'm not so sure about that...but if this is their idea of beautiful design, send me packing! For more pea-liscious design, check out the Canadian House and Home website.

I love a great punch of color in any room. In my living room it's orange...in my bedroom its hot pink. I've been wanting a yellow bookcase for my family room for just such a punch. And I'm kinda digging these mobile steel bookcases actually meant for a classroom and available only (at least from what I've found) from school suppliers. The price is right too. Whaddya think?

The kids went to Grammy and Paca's (thank you!) while Bryce was in NYC on business which left me to spend two days doing nothing but my own luxurious agenda, which included:
Monday, July 27, 2009Recipe from More From Magnolia by Allysa Torey
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups ice cold water
1 (3.4-ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix (preferably Jell-O brand)
3 cups heavy cream
1 (12-ounce) box Nabisco Nilla Wafers
4 cups sliced ripe bananas
In a small bowl, on the medium speed of an electric mixer, beat together the sweetened condensed milk and water until well combined, about 1 minute. Add the pudding mix and beat well, about 2 minutes more. Cover and refrigerate for 3-4 hours or overnight, before continuing. It is very important to allow the proper amount of time for the pudding mixture to set.
In a large bowl, on the medium speed of an electric mixer, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the pudding mixture into the whipped cream until well blended and no streaks of pudding remain.
To assemble the dessert, select a large, wide bowl (preferably glass) with a 4-5-quart capacity. Arrange one-third of the wafers to cover the bottom of the bowl, overlapping if necessary, then one-third of the bananas and one-third of the pudding. Repeat the layering twice more, garnishing with additional wafers or wafer crumbs on the top layer of the pudding. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and allow to chill in the refrigerator for 4 hours – or up to 8 hours, but no longer! – before serving.

...is not always a special occasion at our house; but today we had some special dinner guests so we wanted to do something memorable. It only took a slight craving for our favorite harvest holiday to head us in this tasty direction. Here's what we came up with:

My girls and I want to be invited to this Five Star backyard campout - complete with that amazing and utterly ridiculous tent.

My animated niece Lily does a biting impression of this stand-up routine. Seriously, take 3 minutes and enjoy.
Each year over the 4th of July we set aside our city life and find ourselves in the midst of the greatest small town celebration one could ever experience. I have found that one of life's sweetest delights is sharing my childhood with my own children. They get to play in the same creek I couldn't stay out of near our cabin, dress up in their western duds and go to the same rodeo I love, play in my childhood backyard, even eat ice cream on pancakes at 7:00 a.m. on July 4th with many of our family friends - these things I've been doing each and every July since I can remember. It makes me happy to know these are now the traditions my children look forward to - as we've been making the trek to Cody nearly every summer since Kalli was born. These pictures are just a sampling of the 4-wheeling, horseback riding, parading, rodeoing, hiking, campfire building week in our favorite small town.
